Fellows’ Vintage and Modern Wristwatch Auction of 7th April brings together two horological behemoths from over 65 years apart. Pictured side by side they look quite innocuous but bear in mind that the Laco B-Uhr Navigator replica watch is 55mm across and the Panerai a whopping 60mm.

In the 1930s and 1940s the so-called observation Panerai radiomir egiziano 8 days replica watches were an essential part of a pilot’s equipment.

This observation replica watch served as a means of navigation in addition to the cockpit instruments compass and altimeter. The hacking second function was an essential feature, this allowed all the replica watches of a squadron to be synchronised so that coordinated actions could be achieved.

It was very important that the mechanical Panerai Radiomir Egiziano 8 day Power Reserve fake watch movements had to be of highest precision. The technical features of these replica watches were specified by the ministry for aviation. The shape of the hands, the design of the dial, the typeface and also the dimension of the crown were strictly controlled

Due to this high standard, only five companies were authorised to produce observation replica watches: IWC, Lange & Söhne, Wempe, Stowa and Laco. From these five companies only two produced their own movements; Lange & Söhne and Laco. The other three companies used Swiss movements.

These observation replica watches were engraved with the designation “FL23883”, an official description for navigation instruments. This number was engraved on the outside of the case, on the opposite side of the crown.

The Panerai ‘Egiziano’ is a limited edition of 500 produced in 2009. It recreates at Swiss replica radiomir egiziano watch first designed for the Egyptian navy in the mid-1950s. Having rejected the initial prototype that Panerai created for them, the Egyptians specified something ‘stronger’ and ‘indestructible’ with this replica watch being the result.

Both the original and the 2009 re-issue house an 8-day movement within equally massive proportions.

These are serious statement pieces, but ones drawn from function rather than fashion.
